Storm Chase 17th January, 2004This day was looking quite nice with significant drying out above 400, a moisture slot at 330 and then drying out above that. Shear was very nice with a 50kn jet at 850, LI's were -4.7 and by 11am, temperatures were pushing into the 30's. DP's were in the low to mid 20's so moisture was not a problem on this day. By 11:30, a squall line developed west of Amberley which gave a 41kn wind gust. It didn't take the squall line long to reach me at Archerfield which produced a gust of 56km/hr and dropped the temperature from 33.2 to 24.7 in 10 minutes. After the squall line passed through there was not a breath of wind, it was eerily quiet and the temperature remained in the mid 20's.
