Storm Chase 3rd November, 2004

I went to Archerfield Airport at 2:15 as there were storms firing north of Brisbane. I took some time lapse of it as it built up and it had a few nice crawlers under the anvil. My friend Margy met up with me at Archerfield Airport and we took footage and pics of it as it passed north of Brisbane. We went back to my house at about 5pm to check the radar and there was a nice line building around Mulgowie area to the SW of me. We headed out towards Amberley where we saw an AWESOME gust front however due to the amount of trees and the number of close cg's coming down, we couldn't stop to take pics so we just took some footage. We ended up coming back out near the Warrigo Highway and sat there for a while to get some lightning footage. Several close strikes hit around us and one of them even took out the street lights for a few minutes.

After sitting there for about 15 minutes watching the storm come over, we decided to follow the storm back to Brisbane and once again we ended up at the usual spot of Archerfield Airport. It was raining lightly at the time from the anvil overhead and the storm was beginning to weaken. After about 5 minutes of no cg's at all we were about to leave when a massive crawler went right over our heads. Unfortunately my camera was doing noise reduction at the time so I couldn't capture this picture. Soon more and more crawlers occured and were very impressive.

This storm died off completely after showing 15 minutes of crawlers. Another line of storms was coming through Ipswich though and we could see distant cg's to the west of us. After taking a few pics of the cg's, we decided to wait and see what this storm system would do.

On the horizon, I saw a very nice crawler go across the base of the storm with 2 other cg's strobing to the right of it and I knew once again we were gonna be in for a nice light show. There was no rain at all by now and this system was rather slow moving which made it good. Once again, a massive crawler went straight over the top of us and was very impressive with several branches on it. I managed to capture a few of these impressive strikes.
